Marijuana is probably the most recreational and illegal drug in the world. The most significant ingredient is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinal, it is commonly referred to it abbreviated form THC. This drug should not be legalized because it would lead to hard core drugs, there would be an increase in obesity, and it affects the heart, lungs and the brain. There are legal, social, and medical reasons that marijuana should not be decriminalized.
Some legal reasons that marijuana shouldn’t be decriminalized are it would lead to experimenting with more hard core drugs such as heroin and cocaine. It will also increase in crime and car accidents because it would be harder to determine if a person is driving high unless the user was smoking in the car. By allowing drugs to be legal it will show children that drugs use is acceptable. If marijuana was to be permitted it would be on the addiction list of drugs that are causing considerable problems. For example alcohol is involved in about one quarter of all emergency room admissions, one third of all suicides, and more than half of all homicides and incidents of domestic violence. There are several social reasons on why marijuana shouldn’t be decriminalized such as the problems that will cause children to become lazier then what there are and an increase in obesity. Research show that marijuana causes problems in people life’s or makes a person’s existing problems worse. Since marijuana compromise the potential to absorb or remember information, the more somebody consume it would cause them to fall behind in accruing intellectual, job, or social skills .Studies show in a work place that smokers contained a 55% increase in compensation claims, sick days and lateness.
Some medical reasons that marijuana shouldn’t be decriminalized are that it has long and short terms effects. Examples of the short term outcomes include memory loss, difficulty with thinking, loss of motor skills and increased heart rate. According to the National Institutes of Health show that someone smoking about five joints per week is taking in as many cancer causing chemicals as someone smoking a pack of cigarettes every day. There is no science proof that smoked marijuana can be used for medication. Since cannabis plants are polluted with a range of fungal spores, smoking marijuana may increase the risk of infectious organisms. Taradiff, J. Marijuana and the War on Drugs. “Marijuana. The Drug Enforcement Administration situations on fighting to legalize “medical” marijuana are based on two proposals the scientific field views marijuana as a treatment while the DEA targets sick and dying people using the drug. Neither suggestion is true, science proved it is not medicine and it is not safe to use. The DEA targets on criminal trafficking and not the sick and dying. In 1970 congress authorized laws against marijuana based on that there is no logically proven medical value. Like the Food and Drug Administration, which is responsible for authorizing drugs safe an effective medicine has declined to approve smoked marijuana for any circumstance or disease.
The negative impacts of marijuana are increased heart rate, decrease in blood pressure, difficulty with thinking and problem solving. Sometimes marijuana can also create anxiety, distrust, or nervousness. When there’s a high dose off marijuana in food rather than smoking users can suffer from the following symptoms delusions, impaired memory and disorientation. Science have discovered that regular marijuana smokers can experience the similar complications as tobacco smokers do such as daily cough, increased lung infections and obstructed airways. This would lead children to desire to try a more severe drug that could ruin their development. Adolescents would be at a greater risk for marijuana addiction, more likely than adults to develop dependency. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has realized that marijuana somewhat harms one’s capability to safely operate a motor vehicle. There are already different types of medication products that have marijuana main ingredient THC, and it is legally sold in the U.S., certain individuals find the pill form suitable, and others consume it as tea or baked goods.
The legalization of marijuana shouldn’t occur due to the negative aspects of the drug. Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in America.
